The autumn breeze lifted my raven colored hair, brushing strands across my face. It was a warm day, with a bitter breeze that loomed about, nipping at my cheeks and fingers, turning them pink. The yellow golden sun hung overhead, dripping rays of light across the cramped fair. Even though it was crowded , I still enjoyed it every year. Watching little kids with balloons loosely wrapped around their wrists, their eyes holding a joy that could be passed on with a glance. They reminded me how to smile. And sometimes I really needed that.

Everyone at the fair wore a smile, for as long as I can remember. Kids on the rides, toddlers on their parents shoulders, teens running around the fun houses, just everyone. Sometimes it hurt to watch. Like now, as I watched a young man win a stuffed animal for his girl at a game booth. They looked so happy it hurt, sharing a silent, personal embrace. I stood alone.

Chewing my lip I walked on, pulling up my hood to protect my already red ears from the relentless fall air. When I looked up I saw the Ferris Wheel, which made me smile. I'd loved the Ferris wheel since I was a kid, and rode it every single year. It was all kinds of peaceful and exciting, making you feel so small yet so big compared to everyone on the ground. So I stepped in line, not caring about the time wait.

It was finally my turn, handing over a small ticket, I sat down in the rickety seat. That always made my stomach lurch, but this time I don't think it was just that. Someone else stepped on with me, sitting in the seat across from me. He was short, expressive green-hazel eyes, dark hair, sweet smile. He reached his hands to his face, which were wearing fingerless gloves, and chewed on a black polished nail. I shifted in my seat, nervously. He was cute. He was obviously straight, but cute.

He smiled at me and I realized I was starring. I quickly moved my gaze to the floor, silently apologizing. "Don't be," he joked. It was cruel how he sounded, his voice was sweet and perfect. He was so frustrating. My mind screamed at me, trying to get me look at him, but I forced my eyes away. I could feel him watching me though, just barely seeing his evil cute smirk from the corner of my eye.

The Ferris Wheel veered and began to move. He stood up, walking towards me. "You idiot!" I shouted, grabbing his wrist and pulled him into the seat, "What, do you want to fall off this thing?" I gasped, looking at him like he was insane. He rolled his eyes. "I wasn't going to fall, calm down, What are you, my mother?" "Bitch," I whispered under my breath. "Ha, you wish I was your bitch," he laughed, "I thought you dressed like a fag, guess I was right,"

"I am not," I sneered, avoiding his eye contact. He gave a small giggle, "Oh, sure," he said, leaning over me and snuggling his face into my neck, his breath cradling into my shoulder. A squeak escaped my throat as I tried to push him off of me. I was blushing as he sat back down, laughing. "Liar," he snickered. I refused to look at him. "Oh, aren't you just cute," he teased, "I did all that for you and I don't get a thank you?"

I just about snarled at him. "I never asked for anything," I snapped. He just snickered, "Sure, but you were thinking it," "Why'd you even get on this with me?" I retorted. He shrugged, "I've been watching you all day, cutie. Just wanted to get you alone. This seemed perfect," I blinked a couple times like it was going to clear my mind. "What, are you gay?" I asked, trying to figure things out. He laughed, "No, I'm straight, here for your vagina," I cringed a bit at that, my nose crinkling. He just chuckled. "But I'm sure I'm not the only fag here," he sighed, leaning his head on my shoulder. I don't know why I let him, maybe because it felt like it belonged there.

"What's your name, cutie pie?" he asked, looking at me. " 'Cutie Pie' ?" "Well, I'd like to call you by your real name, but you seem to want me to call you my little unicorn pancake ninja forever," I laughed, unable to contain it, he was such a dork, a cunning little dork, "My names Gerard," I admitted. "I'm Frank. Thanks for existing," he told me. "Why?" He let out a small, content sigh, "I always wondered what the most beautiful person on earth looked like. Thanks for coming along," I blushed furiously, even though I really hated that I did. It was so fucking cheesy, so fucking lame, so fucking adorable, my god.

We were silent as the Ferris Wheel spun its coarse, slowly progressing its way into the air. We were in the sky, us, together. This total stranger and me, I don't know how he did it, but he'd already grown on me. I loved the small rise and fall of his breaths that ran across a stretch of my arm. He pressed in closer, snuggling my side. All I could see now were the clouds, blue sky, and the tips of trees around the parking lot. We were weightless.

"F-Frank?" I asked, nervously, "Yeah?" I liked my lip in thought, "C-Can I hold your hand?" I stuttered. Ugh, that sounded awful, simply awful. He smiled though, maybe he hadn't noticed. "Only if I can kiss you," he reasoned slyly. My cheeks burnt red. Our fingers intertwined and he sat up to lean into my lips. Sudden bliss. Wow, he was an amazing kisser. I let my shoulders relax at his touch. Who even knows how long the kiss was? It felt like forever, it didn't feel enough.

We broke apart, slowly leaning back into our seats. Not a word broke the silence that hung thick in the air. This open air, floating up above the world, no one here to even judge us. I felt safe to fly, I thought. His eyes were washing over the sky, a gleam of wonder in their olive tone. "What are you thinking about?" I wondered to him out loud. He turned his gaze to me, cheeks turning pink. "Oh, nothing..." he blushed. I nodded, accepting the lacking answer. He shook his head, "Y'know what, fuck it, I'll just spit it out, it's worked so far," he grinned a little.

"I-I'm just thinking about how to win you over," he admitted. "I mean, I can't just let you go," he fiddled with a loose hair in front of his eyes. "I didn't even know you were single, I just followed you all day. It wasn't until I saw you watching that couple..." his voice trailed off, trying to control his ramble. I blushed a bit. He'd seen me watching that couple? He followed me? "Your eyes had something familiar, like mine. When you watched them, my smile died. It really hurt to watch you, you almost dropped your tickets. You looked broken, even lost in front of them," he looked away, "You looked so sad, so lonely. I had to follow you then. I knew you needed someone. I was just so nervous you wouldn't need someone like me..."

The Ferris Wheel rotated some more, shifting and rattling a bit. He dropped his gaze to his feet. "What do me mean I wouldn't need you?" I pondered. He shook his head, "You seemed too good to be true. I thought for sure you'd be with someone, or straight, or something. I was sure there would be something between us, but I couldn't just sit there and watch you leave my life in a moments time," I bit my lip in modesty. His words really felt real, I wasn't used to this feeling.

He was so sincere. I couldn't wrap my head around what made him so wonderful. It was all of him? How could someone think like that about me? I didn't get it. I was just some weirdo who liked to draw and read, had a great taste in music, and spent his autumn days at the fair to clear his head. And yet, Frank looked at him like he was the most amazing thing he'd ever seen in his life, when really, it was the other way around.

I chewed an already small fingernail, a filthy relentless habit. I bit into my nail hard, a whimper escaping my lungs. I licked my lip and looked down at my hand, a tiny bead of blood forming gradually from underneath my nail. I pouted in disappointment. "You ok?" he asked concerned. I nodded, raising my hand to show him my injury. He cringed, but then grabbed my wrist in anger and fear. He'd seen something he wasn't supposed to, I could tell by his face.

His mouth twisted in a grim frown, furrowing his brow. He starred at my wrist, softly tracing his fingers over the tiny white and red lines. I wanted to rip my arm out of his grasp, but didn't, feeling comforted knowing someone else saw them. "Your- y-you...." he stuttered silently. He closed his eyes and let out a sigh. "How... I just- how could someone do something to make you do this? How could they hurt you?" I rolled my eyes, "Very easily," I felt my heart squeeze, a sting of pain from the truth. He shook his head, "N-no, no..."

He silently placed kisses over my scars, making my insides all mushed. He sat there with my hand, not knowing what to do with it, not wanting to let it go. "D-Don't. Don't do this again," he demanded, his harsh tone not sharing the torn look in his eyes. He was teary even, almost begging me. Our seat moved towards the clouds as he got into my lap, one hand gently covering my scarred arm, the other dragging its fingers through my dark hair in our kiss. I felt a tear slip from his cheek to mine.

He stopped our kiss, saying, "Don't. No more... I can't stand to see this," his grip tightened on my wrist, before he hugged me so close I could barely breathe. We were in the air, as high as we could go. I was on the top of the world, touching the clouds, in the arms of a stranger who cared about me so much he was crying. It was hard to take in, but I wrapped my arms around his waist. My face pressed up against his warm chest, feeling it rise and fall with crying. I nodded, "I won't," I told him. He took in a shaking breath, whispering, "Promise me?" I nodded again, "I promise, I promise," He leaned his face into my hair, taking in a deep breath. I could feel his smile, his fingers twinning into the strands.

He bent down and kissed my forehead, this time a thank you. I smiled back up at him. "It's so weird how safe I feel with you," one of us said, it didn't really matter who, the feeling was mutual. My words could be his whenever he wanted. He turned and got back to his seat, still holding my wrist in his hand, watching it, like it would start to bleed if he looked away. "...why do you even care?" I asked.

He looked at me with a troubled gaze, but at the same time he had no idea. He didn't have an answer for me, just watched me. "I don't even fucking now," he giggled, starring into my eyes. I didn't know either. I felt the Ferris Wheel begin to bring us down to earth. I wanted to grip onto a cloud, and hoist my angel to the sky to stay there forever. If only...

The world went by too fast. We were already getting off the ride, his fingers still wrapped around my wrist. We walked across the metal platform and down the noisy stairs, our feet finally hitting ground. I looked back up to the sky to see where we once were, but the sun blinded my vision, starring back at me. I winced, straining to see. " Number 19," I heard Frank say beside me. I turned to look at him, asking what he was talking about with my eyes. "That's the number we were in, number 19," He chewed his lip shyly, looking at the ground. I grinned, happy to be able to know. For some reason it was really important to know now.

"I'll remember," I told him. He smiled, looking up again. "Gerard... what are we?" he nibbled his lip piercing. "What is... this?" I watched him silently before grabbing him in my arms. "You're mine," I whispered. I could feel his smile against my chest. He wrapped his fists in my shirt. "Will you be mine, too?" he asked. "Only forever," He giggled, "Do you think it's kinda weird you told a stranger from the fair you'd love them forever?" I nudged him, kiddingly, "You're not like most people I see at the fair," I joked. "Ya, because I'm sexier," he laughed, "Don't deny it!" "I wasn't going to," I teased, whispering into his ear. He blushed madly. I grinned, knowing I had won.
